Greta Van Susteren: ‘Note to Media–We Can Multitask’

By Mark Joyella

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren says even when cable news coverage is dominated by coverage of the bruising presidential race, journalists can bring attention to other stories–and they should. “Note to the media, we can multitask: don’t forget to mention Ethiopia, a drought causing a famine–thousands expected to die of starvation.”

Writing at her GretaWire blog, Van Susteren says important global stories may struggle for air time, but they can and should find their way into journalists’ Twitter and Facebook feeds:

I am well aware of the fact that we are in the midst of an election and yes, it is VERY important. But we in the media, with our many social platforms, can multi task and mention other important stories. Right now a catastrophic famine has struck Ethiopia due to drought.

Stories like this remind me of what is important in life and I make sure I am reminded every day. I am so immersed in the ‘food fight’ of 2016 that I want to make sure I keep things in perspective. Plus, from time to time, I also fear the “me, me and me” of TV media. Sometimes we in the TV media think it is all about our ourselves. It is not.
