Longtime CNN executive and former CNN+ programming chief Rebecca Kutler has landed at MSNBC as svp of content strategy.
MSNBC president Rashida Jones announced the news to staff Wednesday morning, saying Kutler will step into the role Sept. 26—and report directly into her.
“A veteran of the cable news industry, Rebecca will oversee content initiatives across the portfolio,” Jones announced. “In this role, she will run the streaming team and develop new programming on linear and the MSNBC hub on Peacock.”
Kutler was laid off in June as part of the wholesale changes to CNN Digital, in light of Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to scrap the subscriber-based streaming service CNN+.
Kutler spent 20 years at CNN, most recently in charge of all daily programming for the short-lived CNN+. She also oversaw all analysts, contributors and commentators for CNN Worldwide, a job she held since 2015.
Kutler previously served as a CNN executive producer across multiple dayparts and launched several of CNN’s high-profile shows, working closely with John King as the ep of Inside Politics and the now-defunct John King USA. She also served as a senior producer for the network’s election nights and presidential debate coverage.
