For the First Time, Lou Dobbs Takes a Bite Out of Shark Tank

By Chris Ariens

Following a strong Friday night performance for all prime time, FBN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight had the most watched hour on either FBN or CNBC Monday. Dobbs, for the first time ever, beat CNBC’s Shark Tank.

Dobbs hosted a two hour show from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. ET. The 8 p.m. hour drew 291,000 total viewers while Shark Tank drew 233,000.

Dobbs’s special got a lift from a Donald Trump stump speech in Dallas, while also covering the 2016 primaries, the international refugee crisis, and this week’s Fed meeting, which could culminate in a rate increase after keeping the benchmark interest rate near zero for the last 6 years.

FBN is planning special coverage for the Fed decision tomorrow. At 1 p.m. ET, Neil Cavuto, Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs and Stuart Varney anchor a special followed by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen’s press conference. Bartiromo picks back up at 3:30 along with Liz Claman from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Then David Asman, Melissa Francis, Charles Payne and Deirdre Bolton anchor post-market coverage of the decision. Trish Regan will round out FBN’s coverage with a special primetime edition of The Intelligence Report at 8 p.m. ET featuring international market reaction  to the decision.
