Evening News Ratings: Week of Sept. 1

evening news_2014In David Muir’s first week at the helm of “World News Tonight,” the ABC newscast once again took the younger demo while “NBC Nightly News” with Brian Williams” led among total viewers. This is ABC’s 5th consecutive weekly win and 9th of the last 10 weeks in the demo. And this was a milestone week for Williams as well. “Nightly News” marks 5 years straight at No. 1.

All three newscasts were up among total viewers compared to the same week last year, with “Nightly” up the most (+9%). “Nightly” was also the only newscast down in the demo (-2%). “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” was up the most in the demo (+11%) and up +7% in viewers. “World News Tonight” was up +8% in viewers and up +10% in the demo.

On Tuesday, Muir’s first official day as anchor and the first day NBC and ABC were rated head-to-head “Nightly” topped “World News Tonight” by +529,000 total viewers and +111,000 A25-54 viewers.

Because of Labor Day and sports coverage, NBC is based on three days: Tue, Wed, Fri. CBS is based on thee days: Tue, Wed, Thu. ABC is based on four days: Tue-Fri.
