The 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee champion Ananya Vinay hit the morning show circuit today after winning this year’s competition by correctly spelling the word: “marocain.” (Apparently a type of dress fabric).
One appearance for the 12-year-old Fresno, California native, was on CNN’s New Day, where co-hosts Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota asked the question everyone in America wanted them to ask: “Can you spell the word ‘covfefe?'”
“The definition is a nonsense word used by the 45th President of the United States this week in a late-night tweet,” deadpanned Camerota.
Unfortunately Vinay couldn’t get this one right. Here’s a look:
Nevertheless, Vinay is the 13th Indian-American in a row to win the spelling bee.
What’s she going to do with the $40,000 grand prize? Split it with her 7-year-old brother and put her share in an account for her college education, of course!
