ESPN Executive, Harvard Law Grad Named ABC News Now Correspondent

I missed this yesterday: Rob Simmelkjaer was named correspondent for ABC News Now, Michael Clemente announced. “In his new role, Simmelkjaer will anchor the channel’s live coverage and news briefs, in addition to hosting originally-produced shows including Inside the Newsroom, Guilt or Innocence, and The Mix,” the press release says. He started anchoring earlier this year.

“Prior to joining ABC News, Simmelkjaer worked at ESPN, Inc. as vice president, assistant to the president. In this position, he assisted George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and ABC Sports, in key decision-making related to management and strategic direction, and played a key role in negotiations and developing business relationships between ESPN and major sports leagues.”

Before then, he was director of programming and acquisitions at ESPN, where he helped launch a six-year programming agreement with the NBA. Simmelkjaer, a Harvard Law School grad, also practiced law at two New York firms.
