CNN This Morning is set to premiere November 1, and the network is giving viewers a preview of what to expect with a new 70-second promo.
The spot features Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow, and Kaitlan Collins sitting in a coffee shop and engaging in casual conversation about how they’re connected to one another, and providing insight into how they plan to cover the news on weekday mornings.
“Casual” seems to the central theme for this new promo, which might be a clue indicating which direction this new show might be headed. From the casual nature of the promo’s location in a coffee shop, to the hosts’ casual dress (casual by TV news standards, that is), and the casual banter between Lemon, Harlow and Collins, who are also friends; everything about this promo emphasizes casual.
Some of the casual banter in the promo includes:
- Collins and Harlow saying they made their first on-air appearances on Lemon’s previous show.
- Collins revealing, to the surprise of Lemon and Harlow, that she was in eighth grade when Lemon started working for CNN in 2006.
- Harlow saying she knew Lemon was a real friend when he flew to Slovenia for her wedding.
“We need to cover more of what is happening across America,” said Harlow.
Lemon added, “We are the place for accuracy, and we are the place for content.”
Speaking to Variety, Ryan Kadro, CNN’s svp of content strategy, said, “We want familiarity in the morning. We really want the audience to feel at home with the show.”
