Debates: Blitzer Replaces “Show Of Hands” With “Speak Up Now”

The show of hands — described as “the latest device dreamt up to liven up TV debates” — has been replaced, two days after Hillary Clinton challenged it during Sunday’s Democratic debate.

Tonight, Wolf Blitzer asked for a vocal show of hands instead, saying: “If there’s someone here who doesn’t believe English should be the official language of the United States, please speak up right now.”

Then a few minutes later:

“Is there anyone here that believes gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the United States military? If you do, speak up now.” (There was silence.)

Later, Wolf asked for a yes or no answer: “Would you pardon Scooter Libby?” Some of the candidates refused to play ball…
