CNN Beats FNC To Hostage Interview

By Brian

On Sunday night, CNN beat FNC to the interview with Atlanta hostage Ashley Smith. FNC’s lower-third said it was “awaiting” the interview during Greta Van Susteren’s 9pm show, while CNN played its tape. Geraldo Rivera repeatedly promised that the interview was coming up “any second now,” but didn’t air anything until 10:08pm.

CNN’s interview aired for 10 to 15 minutes, during Nancy Grace’s two-hour edition of Larry King Live. (They lost the feed momentarily.) Here’s the transcript. “FNC dropped the ball on the interview last night with the hostage, as they were an hour and a half behind CNN, even though they staffed the interview too,” an e-mailer said.

> Smith was interviewed on Fox & Friends this morning.
