In a talk at Pennsylvania’s Kutztown University, Barbara Walters commented on a variety of topics, as reported by Allentown’s The Morning Call:
• On retirement: “I’d like to leave while I’m still at the top. When I leave, I will leave totally, and it will be in the not-too-distant future.”
• On what the Morning Call says were comments directed toward a changing landscape at “networks such as Fox and MSNBC”: “It’s not enough to do straight news. They have to be entertaining as well as informing. This is very new, the idea of news people giving their political opinions.”
• On her own objectivity: “I’m a purist. I have tried not to give my political views. I’ve never talked about whether I’m a Democrat or Republican, and I won’t today.”
• With regard to her next big story, Walters said that next week, she will sit down for an interview with Anwar Al Sadat’s widow, Jehan Al Sadat.
