Anderson Cooper Emails It In

By SteveK

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper gives a Q&A to USA Weekend‘s Who’s News columnist Lorrie Lynch. He talks about his work filling in on “Live with Regis and Kelly,” his reporting for 60 Minutes and the importance of the nightly newscasts. “Those broadcasts are still watched by a lot of people, so of course, they are still very relevant,” he said. “I don’t think they will be able to attract more young viewers, however. All of us are working longer and fewer and fewer of us are home at 6:30 for the traditional network newscast.”

Lynch points out that Cooper emailed his responses (“it was the one way we could get him quickly,” she writes), which seems to be a departure from her interview M.O. Back in April Lynch “quashed” an interview with CNBC’s Erin Burnett because her “handler” would be sitting in.

She later wrote, “I’m proud to say we expect public figures to be able to answer questions without their PR people in the room or on the phone.”
