Following his appointment to chairman of the Fox Television Stations group, Roger Ailes granted an interview to The Hollywood Reporter’s Paul Gough this afternoon. Here are the highlights:
> “There are a lot of ways that we can work together that we think will improve the news and the quality.”
> Ailes didn’t say that the station group’s news channels would adopt the same type of energy that has worked so well at Fox News but said: “Anybody who knows me understands that having a lot of energy and intensity about your work is pretty important.”
> He is going to meet with Jack Abernethy next week “to really begin to look at the programming and what the difficulties are.”
> Ailes isn’t concerned about the workload: “If you do proper planning, you do not have to careen from crisis to crisis. The main thing is that I have good executives. I have good executives at the Fox News Channel, I have good executives elsewhere.”
> Also: Ailes tells the NYT that he hadn’t discussed the possibility of taking the job until Monday, when he had lunch with Murdoch in Manhattan. “…I just had lunch today and I have a new job,” he says…
