Different week, same trend: ABC’s Good Morning America wins the week in the mornings among total viewers, while NBC’s Today show is No. 1 in the A25-54 demo.
But all three morning shows on broadcast TV continue to lose viewers relative to 2017.
Season to date, GMA is the No. 1 morning newscast in total viewers, leading Today by +76,000 Nielsen live-plus-same-day viewers (4.186 million vs. 4.110 million), to take the top spot at this point of the season for the sixth year in a row.
For the week of July 30, Good Morning America, which managed to win Monday across the board, was -5 percent in total viewers and -13 percent among adults 25-54 vs. the comparable week in 2017.
Today show marked a whopping 136 consecutive weeks, and 152 of the past 153 weeks as the No. 1 morning show among adults 25-54, which is the category that matters most to advertisers of TV news. For the week of July 30, the NBC morning show averaged 1.18 million A25-54 viewers (-10 percent year-over-year), and 3.55 million total viewers (-4 percent year-over-year).
No real way to sugarcoat it: CBS This Morning is struggling in the ratings department. This past week, the program was -8 percent in total viewers and -11 percent in adults 25-54 vs. the comparable week in 2017.
