TiVo rolls out its first iPad app

Say what you may about TiVo’s ups and downs over the years, but its stellar user interface has always set the standard for how people navigate program guides and DVRs. Now TiVo has come out with an even better interface than its remote control: an iPad app.

The new iPad app hit the Apple store this week (it’s free) with a program guide and remote control wrapped into a snazzy touchscreen experience. You can browse program listings spanning TV and broadband partners like Netflix and Amazon. Set recordings, check out recommendations, learn more about shows, and swipe to watch.

It even has a graphical remote control that lets you fast-foward or rewind at different speeds.

And you can share what you think about a show on Facebook or Twitter.

The app is not without it’s problems — it’s getting slammed with bad reviews for inexplicably disconnecting from WiFi when it’s launched (some users say that disabling Bluetooth has fixed the problem). Others don’t like the fact it’s only compatible with TiVo Premiere. But as we’ve seen with the launch of Xfinity’s app, and others in the pipeline, using your iPad as a TV remote will become increasingly common.
