Slingbox coming to Facebook 'soon'

By Natan Edelsburg

It seems like my prayers are starting to get answered regarding Slingbox’s lack of social integration. About a week after I wrote my open letter to the company asking them let their customers help them share Slingbox on the social web, Conrad Gomes, a Senior Software Engineer at Sling Media commented that, “we’re trying,” and shared a link.

Indeed they are, and they’ve announced via a video from Vicky Shum, Head of Product Management, Retail Products at Sling Media that Slingplayer is coming to Facebook. Funny enough, this video – which they released on their Facebook page – didn’t have embed code (we found it uploaded by Endgadget though, which you can see below):

The player itself looks very similar to the web-based player at Watch.Slingbox.com. The main social feature within the app is that you can share simple status updates about, “what you’re watching, or what you think of the show.” Shum adds that in the future Slingbox be adding more social features. Commenters on the video on their Facebook page were excited but wondering when Slingbox will come to Samsung TV, Sony TV, Google TV and Xbox. Overall, a good step for the company.
