Rival papers to share sports content

By Kent Chapline

The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram say they will start trading “basic coverage” of the major league sports teams in DFW. The S-T will handle the Texas Rangers for both papers, the DMN will cover the Dallas Mavericks and Stars, and each paper will continue to cover the Cowboys on its own. This is just the latest step in the increasingly-cozy relationship between these old rivals. Last year they made a distribution deal in which the S-T delivers both papers on the west side of the metro area and the DMN delivers them on the east side. (DMN’s announcement here, S-T’s here. And the disclosure: I work for the CBS O&O in DFW, so I compete directly with both of these papers.)
