CBS goes after Hulu with TV.com

By Cory Bergman

CBS’ acquisition of CNET included a little domain name called TV.com, where the network has been streaming many of its shows. And now CBS is announcing new non-exclusive partnerships — PBS, Sony, MGM and Endemol — in an attempt to make the site a broader destination for TV shows. Of course, Hulu currently rules the roost, but TV.com is aiming to differentiate with social tools. It’s unclear if that approach is enough to turn the dial — so stay tuned. Meanwhile, from an affiliate perspective, the move to beef up TV.com is yet another step in the direction of delivering network content straight to viewers — a trend that will accelerate in the years to come. (Full disclosure: I work for mnsbc.com which has content on Hulu.)
