Peacock’s Queer as Folk, a reboot of the groundbreaking British series of the same name, has been canceled after one season.

The series, described as a vibrant reimagining of the original, explored a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

Creator Stephen Dunn announced the news on Instagram late last week.

“It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as Queer as Folk,” he said. “This experience changed our lives forever and we’re so grateful to have found this incredible new family. But today we received the disappointing news that we’re not getting a second season.”

“We know how much it’s meant to the fans and while we’re heartbroken we won’t get to make more episodes, we wanna thank everyone for watching and falling in love with Brodie, Mingus, Ruthie, Noah, Shar, Julian, Daddius, Bussey, Marvin, Judy and Brenda,” Dunn continued. “We’re so grateful for the chance to honor our community and are so proud of this show.”

This was the second U.S. version of Queer as Folk. The previous version aired on Showtime from 2000-2005. The flagship Queer as Folk aired on Britain’s Channel 4 from 1999-2000.

The Peacock series starred Devin Way (he/him), Fin Argus (they/them), Jesse James Keitel (she/her), CG (they/them), Johnny Sibilly (he/him) and Ryan O’Connell (he/him).
