Paramount+ Pulls 9 Original Shows From Streaming Service

Days after the announced merger between streaming services Paramount+ and Showtime, the former has joined the latter in pulling titles from its library.

The Real World: Homecoming, the comedies Guilty Party, No Activity, and Players, as well as the live-action children’s program The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, are among the nine original shows that Paramount+ has removed from its platform. As of right now, none of these movies have been shelved.

The Coyote, The Harper House, Interrogation, and The Twilight Zone (2019) have also been taken down by the streamer.

On Jan. 30, Showtime canceled several shows and removed others from its streaming platforms.

American Gigolo and Let the Right One In have been canceled, and Showtime has scrapped the Shailene Woodley-starring adaptation Three Women, which will now be shopped elsewhere.

The cable network is also pulling several short-lived shows from its streaming platform. Along with the recently canceled titles, Kidding, Super Pumped Season 1, On Becoming a God in Central Florida and American Rust will be removed from the streaming service. Additionally, seasons of acquired programming, such as The End and Wakefield, are also no longer available.

More cuts from Paramount+ could be on the horizon.

“As a part of Paramount+, we can put more resources into building out the lanes that have made the Showtime brand famous, as well as turning our hit shows into global hit franchises,” Chris McCarthy, who oversees Showtime’s linear network, wrote in a note to staff, per Deadline. “To do this, we will divert investment away from areas that are underperforming and that account for less than 10% of our views,” he added. “We have already begun conversations with our production partners about what content makes sense moving forward and which shows have franchise potential.
