New Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Docuseries Premieres Dec. 31

Netflix will close out 2022 with the premiere of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s next Netflix project.

The couple’s new documentary series Live to Lead will look at notable figures including late US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. The seven-part docuseries will premiere on Dec. 31.

In the newly released trailer, Harry says the documentary was “inspired by Nelson Mandela, who once said ‘What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived.’” Markle finishes the quote, adding: “It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” Harry adds: “It’s about people who have made brave choices,” with Meghan noting, “To fight for change and to become leaders…” “Andfor giving inspiration to the rest of us, to live, to lead,” Harry concludes.

Live to Lead comes a week after the couple’s six-part docuseries Harry & Meghan ended.

In the U.K., the documentary has already courted controversy. The show has been described as having “extremely poor production values,” according to UK royal writer Jennie Bond, and the user of certain photo as “bizarre,” according to ITV’s Lorraine Kelly.

Tory MP Bob Seely told The Daily Mail that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should lose their royal titles, accusing them of exploiting their position. Seely is putting out a Private Members’ Bill to grant the Privy Council the authority to do this.

Despite the controversy, or maybe because of it, the docuseries is Netflix’s highest-rated program in the U.K. year-to-date.

Harry & Meghan had 2.4 million views on smart TV’s during its first day on Netflix. The second episode pulled in 1.5 million streams and the third episode has 800,00 streams, according to Deadline.
