Last month msnbc.com (my employer) assumed responsibility of @breakingnews on Twitter. An editorial team was assigned to scour the planet for the latest breaking news and tweet it as quickly as possible, crediting and linking the originating news sites, many of them local TV and newspaper sites.
Today, msnbc.com announced that we’ve expanded that initiative by acquiring the domain BreakingNews.com. Aggregated breaking news alerts are now multiplatform, appearing on @breakingnews and BreakingNews.com nearly simultaneously.
As Twitter as taught us, many people enjoy tracking a real-time stream of short-form news — an entirely different experience than a traditional news site.
