Position: Managing Photojournalist

A managing photojournalist occupies a mid-level position in our
company. He or she is expected to take full creative, production and
fiscal responsibilities for most projects.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in video or film production or
broadcast journalism.

Experience: Broadcast journalism combined with experience in higher
end productions preferred. At least 5 years experience as
videographer and editor with focus on news and TV magazine-style
shooting and editing. Proven leadership and project management
skills. Proficient working with all formats, with special focus
working with betacam or DVCam, AVID editing and Photoshop. Experience
with Microsoft Office programs.

Important Attributes: Strong visual storyteller. Self motivated
person with the ability to be productive and manage their own
schedule as well as oversee production schedules and the schedules of
production team members. Ability to develop the visual creative
concepts for projects. Strong skills in both news style and higher
end production videography and lighting techniques. Experience or
interest in new technology and new media including podcasting,
videocasting and HD. Strong leadership skills. Ability to make
creative decisions in the field. Strong client skills and ability to
direct interviewees and/or talent. Ablility to meet deadlines.
Detail-oriented. Comfortable working in a team environment with
authentic communication.

Primary responsibilities: Shooting and editing projects with a focus
on news and TV magazine-style shooting and editing. Responsible for
overseeing internal and external video crews. Responsible for
setting, monitoring and maintaining high quality visual standards in
all projects, which include projects he/she is actively working on as
well as others. Following project from concept to completion.
Approximately 3/4 of the time will be spent shooting and editing,
with the other 1/4 being spent managing production resources and
projects.

Secondary responsibilities: Maintains current production and post
production equipment and vehicles as well as researches new
technologies. Selects and monitors outside crews and vendors. Helps
train junior production staff members.

Promotion path: Managerial role in production, post production or
operations.

Labor status: This is a professional position and is exempt from most
federal and state labor laws.

Supervisory responsibilities: Videographer, Production Assistant,
Associate Producer, Editor and/or Intern as designated. Freelance
crews and vendors.

Reports to: Executive Producer, Director of Media Relations and
Editorial Development and/or President as designated.
