Live shark cam stirs the waters for 'Shark Week'

By Cory Bergman

In honor of the 25th anniversary of Shark Week — or perhaps just to stir the social waters in advance of its premiere — the Discovery Channel has teamed with UStream to offer a live stream from the Ocean Voyager Exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium. That’s a huge tank home to 33 sharks, and it didn’t take us long to see a few of them swimming by the lens.

The live stream is up and running from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET. every day, and it features an interactive 360-degree camera that you’ll be able to control (however, we couldn’t get it to work yet).

When Shark Week gets underway on Monday, August 13, you’ll be able to tune into the live stream for two shark feedings a day (10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET). They’ll also hold a daily chat with a shark diver, taking questions from the Ustream social stream and Twitter.

As Discovery would say, “that’s jawesome.”

The @SharkWeek Twitter account is helping spread the word with the #SharkCam hashtag.
