Here Are the New DC Shows Coming to HBO Max

The DC Universe just got a lot bigger.

Three months after formally taking over management of the newly established DC Studios under Warner Bros. Discovery, James Gunn and Peter Safran have revealed the first ten movies and television shows that will be part of the DC Universe reboot.

Here’s what’s on tap for the company’s first phase, Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, at HBO Max.

Creature Commandos: Production has already started on this animated series, which is a modern take on the DC Comics team of the same name featuring a group of characters battling Nazis. The hope is for the yet-to-be-cast voice actors to portray their roles in live-action performances later.

Waller: In a spinoff of Gunn’s HBO Max series Peacemaker, Viola Davis returns in a live-action show based on her character from the prior DC films. Since Gunn hasn’t had time to write Peacemaker Season 2 yet, the plot will feature returning Peacemaker characters and events that take place between Seasons 1 and 2.

Green Lanterns: The long-in-development Green Lanterns TV series from Greg Berlanti has been axed and replaced with a True Detective-type mystery featuring famous Lantern heroes Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The pair investigate a mystery that “plays a really big role leading us into the main story that we’re telling across our film and television,” according to Safran.

Paradise Lost: A Game of Thrones-style drama set in Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s birthplace, years before Diana’s birth. The series will examine Themyscira’s political conflicts as many Amazons vie for control and will be an origin story of Themyscira.

Booster Gold: A live-action series about “a loser from the future who uses his basic future technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero,” per Safran.

“I think of it basically as the story of a superhero with imposter syndrome,” Gunn said. “How do you deal with that? How does he try to use this future technology to be loved by people today? And what is really at the base of that, as a character study? That’s going to be a very different type of show. And we are talking to an actor about this right now.”
