HBO Max released the trailer for the upcoming series DMZ starring Rosario Dawson and executive produced by Ava DuVernay. The series, based on the 2005 Vertigo comic book by Brian Wood, is set in a dystopian future where a second U.S. Civil War has turned Manhattan into a demilitarized zone (DMZ), caught between the U.S. government and the secessionist Free States of America.

Dawson plays Alma Ortega, a medic who becomes a symbol of hope, while trying to find her son. Benjamin Bratt portrays Parco Delgado, a deadly and powerful gang leader who will stop at nothing to rule the DMZ. The cast also includes Hoon Lee, Freddy Miyares, Jordan Preston Carter, Venus Ariel. Rutina Wesley, Nora Dunn, Jade Wu, Mamie Gummer, Rey Gallegos, Agam Darshi. Juani Feliz and Henry G. Sanders will guest star.

DMZ was adapted for television by Robert Patino, who will also serve as showrunner and wrote the first episode, which will be directed by DuVernay. Ernest Dickerson (The Walking Dead) will direct the following three episodes. DMZ is produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television.
