POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Executive Producer will harness existing content, consumer-generated content, interactive applications, viral distribution channels and social media to build audiences of critical mass and optimize revenue opportunities. This position will oversee the development and execution of channels as well as presentation of news content on the MySanAntonio.com website. The Executive Producer will play a pivotal role in the success of these initiatives, as well as in the site’s success overall by directing the design, navigation and presentation of website content. Our partners’ newsrooms are rapidly evolving their own online skills to serve core audiences. Therefore, the Executive Producer’s responsibility increasingly will focus outside traditional news, toward new audiences and their growing needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Oversees development of content channels to include social media, community forums, polls, chat events and other customer-created content areas, including feature creation, partner relationships and third-party content.
• Contributes to strategic planning and product builds; maintains quality control for usability including search, navigation, content features, promotions and events
• Responsible for content programming and translating business goals into optimal customer experience for the online community.
• Oversees development and execution of new content through relationships with community groups within relevant areas
• Works work with partner newsrooms to create and schedule editorial and feature content.
• Works closely with other departments within MySA.com and our partner companies, including marketing and technology/design, and is a key collaborator with the newsroom leadership
• Directs training of newsroom and community contributors on content management tools and resources for user-generated content tools.
• Monitors local and national sites daily to ensure compliance with best practices and provides regular feedback and assistance to partners in the form of teaching best practices.
• Reviews and monitors content delivery options to provide various platforms including text, mobile and other hand-held devices in conjunction with site management team.
• Innovates ideas that can improve the user interface and capitalizes on social networking technology
• Works with vendors who may supply creative, statistical or content support
• Management oversight of approximately 8-12 people inclusive of both staff and freelance personnel
• Other projects as assigned.
• The executive producer shall report to the Internet general manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES) REQUIRED:
• Minimum of 3 years experience directing daily content operations of a web-based consumer online site including setting creative and strategic editorial and programming direction; demonstrated knowledge of online community-related content.
• Demonstrated knowledge of building, growing and monetizing online and digital media communities including use of SEO and SEM tactics
• Sophisticated understanding of digital media trends and competitors
• Extensive experience with and knowledge of online consumer behavior (i.e. metrics, usability surveys, etc.)
• Ability to build, motivate and nurture effective partnerships with multiple media groups, grassroot organizations, bloggers, contributors, etc. within a collaborative environment
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to operate effectively in strategic and tactical modes; to quickly generate and prioritize ideas for immediate actions that drive larger goals while holding self and others accountable
• Expected to help direct and teach digital content and production concepts to media professionals and community content providers.
• Candidate must thrive in a deadline and team-driven media environment. Experience in an interactive or multimedia journalism environment a plus.
• Online event production and promotion experience a plus.
• The successful candidate will have a track record of growing audience through non-news content and services.
