'Coming out party' at CES for mobile video

By Cory Bergman

Over 800 local TV stations have been working together with the Open Mobile Video Coalition since 2007 to bring live television to mobile devices. “CES this year is really going to be a coming out party for us,” says Brandon Burgess, Chairman of the Open Mobile Video Coalition. “We have some ways to show people on how we’re going to re-imagine broadcasting and take it out of the living room.” That ranges from cell phones to laptops, and a new product called “The Tivit,” a receiver that sends a live TV signal to mobile devices. The WSJ shot an interview with Burgess here (story):

Burgess says they’ll be working on a roll-out plan over the next year or so. But one question remains: beyond live sports and breaking news, would you watch non-linear TV (without a DVR) on a mobile device?
