Cinemax launches 'MAX Go' apps in time for premiere

Cinemax has launched mobile apps (iTunes) for its MAX Go service, which allows subscribers of DirecTV, Dish, Cox, Charter, FiOS, U-verse and Suddenlink to access content anytime, reports MultiChannel News. Similar to HBO Go (HBO owns Cinemax), MAX Go apps are available for iPad, iPhone, iTouch and Android.

It’s no coincidence that the apps are a flight when Cinemax is trying to push their “first scripted prime-time original drama series,” Strike Back, which premiers tonight (Friday) at 10pm Eastern. If you’ve been watching True Blood, Curb, or Entourage over the last few weeks there’s no doubt that you’ve seed ads for the new “high-octane, globe-spanning thriller with storylines ripped from today’s headlines,” program that “focuses on two members of a top-secret intelligence agency known as Section 20.”

Strike Back already has 11,891 check-ins on GetGlue, more than double the amount of likes on it’s Facebook page. HBO seems to be doing a great job building up hype for the Show on GetGlue as most of the comments on the page are about excitement after watching the trailer, which users get a “Coming Soon” sticker for checking in.

“We hypothesized that there would be a small but influential group of early adopters who would participate to earn the exclusive sticker and be the first to broadcast their anticipation of the premiere. We’re very happy with the initial results,” explained an HBO spokesperson.

HBO also commented on their social strategy for the premier. “While there are specific social media tactics supporting the Strike Back premiere, we’re strategically focused on deepening engagement with the Cinemax brand. We’ve recently relaunched the Cinemax Facebook, Twitter and Youtube profiles as well as adding deeper social functionality to the new Cinemax.com.”

Cinemax has more original programming on the way with Transporter and Banshee.
