Casey Bloys has stepped into a new position as chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max.
Bloys will report directly to Warner Bros. Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav. He joins a group of CEOs, which includes Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, who are chairpersons and CEOs of Warner Bros. Film Group; Channing Dungey, chairman, Warner Bros. Television Group; Kathleen Finch, chairman and CCO, US Networks Group; Chris Licht, chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide; and Luis Silberwasser, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports. This past July, Bloys signed a new five-year contract with Warner Bros. Discovery.
Bloys joined HBO in 2004 as director of development for HBO Independent Productions and was promoted to vp one year later. In 2006, he was named vp, HBO Entertainment, and became HBO president of programming in 2016, adding HBO Max to his portfolio in 202o.
HBO/HBO Max is coming off a successful awards year, receiving 140 Emmy nominations, the most of any network or platform in 2022. HBO’s The White Lotus won the most Emmys, snatching up ten total, and Succession won for Outstanding Drama Series.
In addition, the Game of Thrones prequel, House of The Dragon, has been a rousing success for HBO, pulling in an average of 29 million viewers weekly.
