Tuitele, a leading social TV analytics company in Spain, recently released a report detailing the rapid growth of social TV in Spain in 2013. In January 2013, 750,000 unique Twitter users tweeted about Spanish TV; in December 2013, the number ballooned to 1.3 million unique users.
Even more impressive is that 78% of Twitter users in Spain tweeted about TV over the course of the year. In Spain, social TV is not a mere subset of the larger social conversation – it is one of its largest drivers. Still, the type of programming driving the social conversation in Spain is in line with larger social TV trends: Sports represented 30.2% of all tweets about TV in 2013, while talent shows and reality shows, respectively, were the next most tweeted-about genres.
