Writing in the Future

By Jason Boog

vadim.jpgWriters of the future could be multitasking masters or overworked scribes, depending on how you look at the multimedia tools available for writers and journalists in the 21st Century.

Today’s guest on the Morning Media Menu was Vadim Lavrusik, a journalist who has written for Mashable and Poynter, and now, has decided to go to j-school. During the interview, Lavrusik explained his choice to go to Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, despite the fact that he had a wealth of real-world experience at both traditional newspapers and websites.

Here’s more from the interview: “The future journalist is probably going to have to do a lot of things. That doesn’t mean you’re going to be doing a video every day, but you might have to do that once a week, or when it’s appropriate for the story … The whole ‘blogging’ term, I think that’s going to disappear pretty soon. The two forms of ‘article’ and ‘blogging’ are meshing so much that there’s almost no difference anymore. Doing podcasts, curating links–I think these are all things that are going to be required of the journalist of the future.”
