Over the weekend, one user asked (along with a major newspaper) a good question–what happens to your books when you lose your Kindle?
The NY Times interviewed a Kindle owner who unsuccessfully tried to disable his Kindle after losing the device. According to the article, Amazon won’t deal with a lost Kindle unless “contacted by a police officer bearing a subpoena.” Without the subpoena, it appears the thieves or lucky individuals who find it next can keep your books.
Here’s more from the article: “The complaints have left Amazon with a new public relations dilemma … If the company were to shut down a Kindle that had been erroneously reported as stolen, it might be accused of playing cop, judge and jury.
