By Jeff Rivera

Today’s choice for Featured Pick of the Day Book of Color is Charles R. Smith Jr.’s picture book Twelve Rounds to Glory: The Story of Muhammad Ali (Candlewick Press). Smith Jr. tells the tale of Muhammad Ali’s life from birth to the present in twelve short chapters. Smith captures the attention of the reader by writing his lines in lyrical poetry, inspired by the modern beat of rap. The rhythmic cadence of Smith’s words, coupled with Bryan Collier’s vivid illustrations artfully bring the life and words of Muhammad Ali to life.

Charles R. Smith Jr. is the author of more than twenty titles, including the American Library Association Notable Book Rimshots: Basketball Pix, Rolls, and Rhythms. Smith currently lives in Poughkeepsie, New York with his wife and three children.
