Forget Sony’s Daily Edition, What about the Partnerships?

sonydailyedition.jpgAs Sony (SNE‎) unveiled the new Daily Edition digital reader today (pictured), the new device stole the show: a 3G wireless connection via AT&T, a 7-inch wide touch screen, and the $399 price tag. However, the company also revealed a series of important partnerships.

Here’s more from ReadWriteWeb: “Sony has also partnered with a number of independent booksellers in the US. These include over 200 members of the American Booksellers Association, as well as BooksOnBoard, Net Galley, and Portland, OR based Powell’s Books, the world’s largest independent bookseller. In addition, Sony also plans to make it easier for users to check out eBooks from their local libraries.”

The NetGalley partnership allows readers to download PDF galleys into the Sony Reader’s Adobe Digital Editions format by simply clicking a “Sony Reader” button in the catalog. These partnerships could help the new reader survive in a competitive e-book market, broadening the uses of the device.
