T-Boz (GalleyCat)Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, a singer from the R&B group TLC, has signed a deal with Rodale Books. She (pictured, via) plans to write a book on her long-time battle with sickle-cell anemia entitled A Sick Life.

The publisher has scheduled the release date for September 2017. Senior editor Marisa Vigilante negotiated the deal with Kuhn Projects literary agent Laura Nolan.

Here’s more from the press release: “For the first time, Tionne will tell her story and take the reader inside the early ’90s music scene in Atlanta where TLC was born; chronicle the band’s meteoric rise to superstardom (including the behind-the-scenes making of such #1 singles as ‘Waterfalls,’ ‘No Scrubs,’ ‘Unpretty,’ and more); and the fierce in-fighting and business struggles that followed. At the same time, Tionne will share with readers how she hid her disease from her band mates and fans until it was impossible to do so and how she has since become a national spokesperson for the Sickle Cell Foundation and a tireless advocate for the disease—raising awareness and funds and even working with Congress on legislation that allows for greater access to bone marrow transplants.”
