The Dog Days Are Almost Upon Us

Three weeks ago, when I was out of town on a speaking engagement and set up two days’ worth of cat pictures, I promised dog lovers that they’d get their chance in August—and here we are. Book publicity consultant Bella Stander couldn’t wait to email her picture of Jenny, a 12-year-old Aussie-golden retriever mix, since she’s leaving her home office for a few days’ vacation before she speaks at the Backspace Writers Conference at the end of the week. Stander apologizes for not having a picture of Jenny with a book, “but she’s next to a Hebrew inscription on stone, which has to count for something.”

The rest of you authors and publishing industry professionals, though, are encouraged to incorporate books or other literary implements into your pictures. Send me the photos along with a brief description of your dog (and a little something about you!) by 12:01 a.m. (Eastern) Thursday, August 7, and we’ll run the pictures on Thursday (and, if we have enough, Friday). As with the cat photos last month, I’ll create polls for GalleyCat readers to vote on their favorite picture—I’m still working on a possible prize for the winner beyond the pride of owning one of the cutest dogs in the world, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.
