author-solutions.gifAuthor Solutions purchased their print-on-demand rival, Xlibris–giving the owner of iUniverse and AuthorHouse a large share in the self-publishing market as the traditional publishing companies struggle.

The NY Times reports that Author Solutions, which is owned by Bertram Capital, bought the company for an undisclosed sum. Xlibris counts 20,000 titles in print and 15,000 participating authors. Last year alone Author Solutions sold 2.5 million copies and published 12,000 titles.

From the article: “Together with Xlibris, currently based in Philadelphia, the title count for the combined company would have been about 19,000 in 2008.” (Via PW)
