By Maryann Yin

flatironReed King has signed a six-figure deal with the Macmillan division, Flatiron Books. King’s debut novel, entitled FKA USA, belongs to the speculative fiction genre.

Amy Einhorn, a senior vice president and publisher, has negotiated the deal with Stephen Barbara of InkWell Management. The release date has been scheduled for Winter 2018.

According to Barbara’s announcement, FKA USA features a story “in the vein of Douglas Adam’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, only for the American end of times. The work is set in a United States whose final, disastrous president—a despotic billionaire whose self-interested rule provokes a massive civil war and the splintering of the states into individuals countries—ushers in the end of the union.”
