Penguin Classics Celebrates 80th

By Dianna Dilworth

Penguin Classics is celebrating its 80th birthday by selling 80 of its Little Black Classics for 80 pence (about $1.25).

Titles in the series include: The Gate of the Hundred Sorrows by Rudyard Kipling; A Cup of Sake Beneath the Cherry Trees by Kenko; and A Simple Heart by Gustave Flaubert.

The publisher has built an online compass to show off the collection. Readers can move the penguin icon around the 80 degree dial to discover books. When a user clicks on points along the dial, a book’s title and author pops up. They can flip the icon to see a passage from the work revealed.
