Finally, the prize that has the three-digit longlist has whittled itself down to a shortlist of eight – and it’s guaranteed that the winner of the world’s largest literary fiction prize will be male:

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
The Short Day Dying by Peter Hobbs
No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson
Shalimar The Clown by Salman Rushdie

The winner will be announced on June 14.
