Have Madonna’s English Roses Wilted?

Roger Friedman of Fox News can’t wait to tell you about the low numbers on Madonna’s new book. Of course, “low” is somewhat relative: Many children’s authors would jump for joy if they’d sold the 9,000 units Nielsen Bookscan reports for Too Good to Be True, the latest in Madonna’s series of illustrated stories, but remember that her first effort enjoyed nearly four times that success. (Although Fox goofs by misinforming readers that the book was published in 1993, rather than 2003.) The article blames negative publicity stemming from the pop star’s adoption of a Malawian infant, with her kabbalistic tendencies thrown in for good measure.
