“It’s not what you’d call a promo so much as its own surreal thing,” says Jeff VanderMeer of the short film based on his novel Shriek: An Afterword (which is coming out in trade paperback this month). And it’s true: What we’re running below is actually a two-minute trailer to the whole 14-minute production, directed by JT Lindroos and featuring an original soundtrack by the Australian band The Church (you remember “Under the Milky Way,” right?). Hi- and lo-res versions of the entire movie can be streamed online from the Shriek website; it’s recommended that you pause the film as soon as it starts and let a good chunk of it stream through to avoid any buffering problems.
