Chloe Moretz Rumored to Star in the ‘The Hunger Games’ Film

Movie executives hope the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ popular young-adult series, The Hunger Games, can emulate the Twilight‘s phenomenal success. At the moment, rumors say that Chloe Moretz will star as heroine Katniss Everdeen.

Moretz has extensive acting credentials with roles in 300 Days of Summer, Kick-Ass, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. But, some protests have surfaced because Moretz’s fair complexion and blond hair doesn’t match Katniss’ description in the YA series. Writer Peta Jinnath Andersen asked: “Is Hollywood whitewashing the Hunger Games?” Her post cited directly from the book, which described Katniss with “straight black hair, olive skin [and] … gray eyes.”

The embedded video names two other actress choices to be Twilight movie stars, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.

While Stewart has natural brunette hair, both her and Fanning seem quite fair-skinned as well. Entertainment Weekly hosted a poll with a casting pool of six actresses for the role of Katniss. Because of her natural physical features and fantasy-genre acting experience, perhaps Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev would be the best choice.

At least there doesn’t seem to be less drama with the choices on directors and screenplay writers. Seabiscuit director Gary Ross appears to be the lead contender in the pack for the director’s job. Collins adapted the book into the screenplay’s first draft and Billy Ray is in charge of the re-write. (Via USA Today)
