As BlackBerry unveiled the new PlayBook tablet, our eBookNewser blog broke the news that Amazon already has an app ready for it.

UPDATE: eBookNewser has more about a Kobo Blackberry app from Kobo CEO Michael Serbinis: “The app will let readers Shop with a friend, read with a group, exchange passages, and discuss the book in real-time.” WattPad will have a new app for the tablet device as well.

Like all Kindle apps, the app for the BlackBerry PlayBook will let customers access their account across platforms and read on multiple devices. The big question that remains is will Apple release an iBookstore app on the PlayBook, since the new tablet will be a direct competitor to the iPad.”
