Andrew Wylie in Comic Strip Form

wylie.jpgNew York Magazine published The Life of Wylie–a comic strip version of literary agent Andrew Wylie’s biography. The Dan Goldman-illustrated comic will be featured in the October 4th print edition of New York Magazine.

Boris Kachka, the writer behind the strip, inserts this tagline: “The superagent has yet to meet a publishing convention he didn’t want to explode.” The world-renowned literary agency made headlines back in July 2010 with the launch of Odyssey Editions. The deal sparked anger from several major publishers, most notably Random House and Macmillan.

It also gave birth to two feuding Twitter satire characters, Good Random House and Evil Wylie. While the latter unmasked himself for GalleyCat, Good Random House remains stubbornly anonymous.

The Wylie Agency was founded in New York City almost thirty years ago in 1980. It opened its London office sixteen years later in 1996. Three of its top clients include Martin Amis, Dave Eggers, and Al Gore. The agency also manages the estates of W.H. Auden, Norman Mailer, and John Updike.
