Amy Sedaris’s confusing bookstore choices

By Carmen

As the comedienne (and sister of David Sedaris) continues the avalanche of promotion for her hospitality-themed book I LIKE YOU, one thing she never banked on has popped up in a big way: where to shelve the book? “I had no idea it would be so much,” Amy Sedaris said in an interview with the Oregonian. “I forgot people might actually buy the book. I never thought about where it might go in the bookstore or anything like that.”

She’s thought about it now and doesn’t want I LIKE YOU in the humor section (“because people won’t take it seriously”) and isn’t sure she wants it in cooking section “next to Martha Stewart and the Flatfoot Contessa and those other people.” It’s a dilemma, because there’s lots of humor in it — including tips on entertaining lumberjacks and rabbits — and lots of recipes. But in the end, people seem to be finding it, since the book is currently #10 on the New York Times Bestseller List.
