James Corden Lifts Late Late Show With First Episode

James Corden’s tenure as host of CBS’ Late Late Show got off to a solid start on Monday night. Fast affiliate returns give the series 1.66 million viewers and a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 — that’s up 22 percent from the comparable showing last year with Craig Ferguson but flat in the key demo. It was the largest Late Late Show audience on a Monday since November 2011 with Craig Ferguson as host. Compared to the averages last fall with Ferguson, Monday’s Late Late Show was up 33 percent (0.1) in adults 18-49 and 13 percent (about 190,000) in total viewers. (Variety)
Meanwhile, Corden’s rival at NBC, Seth Meyers, averaged 1.528 million viewers in the timeslot in the same period of time, including 592,000 viewers aged 18-49 and 182,000 aged 18-34. ABC’s Nightline, which airs against the first half hour of the other two networks’ late-night shows, averaged 1.710 million viewers, including 532,000 in the demo and 169,000 in the younger age bracket.
