Elon Musk’s Twitter Faces Exodus of Advertisers, Executives

Twitter is facing an exodus of executives and skittish advertisers as Elon Musk and his advisers take control of the social media company, prepare to lay off employees and make changes to the product. (NYT)

Twitter chief customer officer Sarah Personette, Twitter’s main liaison to the advertising community, tweeted Tuesday morning that she resigned from the company last Friday, bringing more change to a C-suite that saw the firings of CEO Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, legal, public policy and trust and safety lead Vijaya Gadde and general counsel Sean Edgett late last Thursday night. Chief marketing officer Leslie Berland, who joined Twitter in 2011, departed Tuesday, according to people familiar with the matter. Jean-Philippe Maheu, the vice president of global client solutions, is also exiting San Francisco-based Twitter, people familiar said. (Bloomberg)

Twitter’s getting rid of one of Blue’s best perks: ad-free articles. In a message sent out to publishers, Twitter says it “made the decision to discontinue Ad-free Articles, effective as of close of business today, October 31, 2022.” (The Verge)

Musk has said Twitter will charge $8 monthly to Twitter users who want a blue tick by their name indicating a verified account. As part of changes after a $44 billion takeover of the social media site, Musk said it was “essential to defeat spam/scam.” (BBC News)

Large foreign investors would have access to confidential information about Twitter’s finances—and potentially its users—under the terms of Musk’s deal to acquire the social media site. That revelation comes as Treasury Department officials begin looking into whether they have the legal authority to start an investigation into the purchase because of Musk’s ties to foreign governments and investors.
