Apple Enters Sports Arena with MLB Streaming Deal

There’s another shakeup in the sports streaming landscape. Apple TV+ and Major League Baseball have struck a deal for Friday Night Baseball—assuming that there is actually an MLB season this year, that is. (Adweek)

Under terms of the new pact, Apple will have exclusive rights to telecast two “Friday Night Baseball” games each week—totaling about 50 per year—in the U.S. and to eight countries overseas, via its Apple TV+ streamer. (Variety)

Apple will also produce MLB Big Inning, a live show featuring highlights and look-ins to games on every weeknight of the regular season. (THR)

And fans in both the U.S. and Canada will gain access to a new 24/7 livestream with MLB game replay, news, analysis, highlights, classic games and more, as well as on-demand programming that includes highlights and other original MLB content. (TechCrunch)

The Friday night games will be free from local broadcast restrictions, across devices where Apple TV+ can be found and select smart TVs, gaming consoles and cable set-top boxes, Apple said. (Deadline)
