Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Draws 25 Million on Debut

Amazon.com Inc. said more than 25 million people around the world sampled the premiere of its highly anticipated series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Sept 2., the biggest debut in the streaming service’s history. (WSJ)

The series is based on the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books and is the most expensive television series of all time. (CNBC)

Amazon has invested an estimated $1 billion on the project, including $250 million for the rights to the franchise. The series was launched in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide this month—and new episodes will be released weekly through Oct. 14. (Bloomberg)
